Practical overview
When it fits
Use the repository when building a tailored web front end for an existing Amazon Q Business application and you need a documented starting point for authentication and ChatSync conversations.
Who it is for
- Developers adapting the Amazon Q Business interface with corporate styling, feedback handling or custom login.
- Teams that want to consolidate Amazon Q interactions in a tailored web experience.
Documented uses
- Build a customized web interface connected to an existing Amazon Q Business application.
- Use Cognito and IAM Identity Center in an identity-aware sign-in and chat flow.
- Adapt the interface with feedback handling, corporate colors and templates, or a custom login experience.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identified as MIT-0 licensed. The documented deployment requires an AWS account and AWS resources, including an existing Amazon Q Business application.
- The documented authentication walkthrough uses Amazon Cognito; other OIDC 2.0-compliant providers are described as likely to work with minor adjustments.
- Deployment prerequisites include IAM permissions, IAM Identity Center users, an existing Amazon Q application and a certificate imported into AWS Certificate Manager.
- The described deployment uses CloudFormation with an Application Load Balancer, Cognito user pool and EC2-hosted web app.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare the AWS environment for the sample UI
Set up the documented prerequisites before launching the sample’s CloudFormation deployment.
Before you start
- An AWS account and an IAM role with sufficient permissions to create the required resources.
- An existing, working Amazon Q Business application.
- IAM Identity Center with users configured with names and email addresses.
- A TLS certificate imported into AWS Certificate Manager.
Steps
Confirm the AWS account, deployment permissions, Amazon Q application and IAM Identity Center users are in place.
Obtain a TLS certificate, import it into AWS Certificate Manager, and retain its certificate ARN for the deployment parameters.
If proceeding with the documented development-only self-signed certificate route, generate and import a private certificate using the README’s OpenSSL and AWS CLI commands.
Expected outcome
The prerequisites and certificate ARN needed for the documented CloudFormation launch are prepared.
Guide limitations
- A self-signed certificate can trigger a browser warning and is not recommended by the README for production use.
- This guide covers preparation only; it does not claim that deployment or application operation was tested.
