Zklocus

Zklocus is a Mina-based application, framework, and protocol for private, programmable geolocation sharing across off-chain and on-chain applications. Its JavaScript and TypeScript API supports geolocation proofs, including proving presence within polygon regions without revealing exact coordinates, and includes proof verification, metadata attachment, and proof composition.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when an application needs to check regional presence or compose geolocation conditions without making precise coordinates the default shared information.

Who it is for

  • Developers building Web3 applications that need verifiable geolocation conditions
  • Teams designing location-based workflows that should avoid sharing exact coordinates by default

Documented uses

  • Prove that a location falls within a defined geographic region
  • Generate proofs for one or multiple polygons
  • Verify, combine, or attach metadata to geolocation proofs
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • The documented development stack is TypeScript, Mina Protocol, and O1JS.
  • The API examples cover proof generation, verification, metadata, and combining proofs.
  • The README describes exact or semi-private location sharing as options alongside region proofs.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Create a proof for a point inside a polygon

Generate a geolocation proof for a point against a three-point polygon using the documented JavaScript or TypeScript API.

Before you start

  • A JavaScript or TypeScript project
  • The zklocus npm package
  • Latitude and longitude values for a point and three polygon vertices

Steps

  1. Install the package with the command below.

    Documented command
    npm install zklocus
  2. Import ZKGeoPoint and ZKThreePointPolygon from zklocus.

  3. Create a ZKGeoPoint from the location coordinates and a ZKThreePointPolygon from three latitude/longitude vertices.

  4. Call zkGeoPoint.Prove.inPolygon(polygon) to request the proof.

Expected outcome

The API returns a proof for the point-in-polygon check.

Guide limitations

  • The example demonstrates proof generation but does not document how to obtain or authenticate the location coordinates.
  • This recipe does not cover on-chain submission or cross-chain deployment.
