Practical overview

When it fits

Use Profitmaker when you need a configurable trading interface that brings exchange market and account data into dashboards, or when you want to self-host and work with its REST/WebSocket API.

Who it is for

  • Crypto traders who want configurable dashboards for exchange markets, balances and trading activity.
  • Developers who want to self-host a trading terminal or manage its dashboards and exchange accounts through its API.

Documented uses

  • Build dashboards from widgets such as charts, order books, trades and portfolio views.
  • Monitor live market data and account information across exchange connections.
  • View order, trade, position, balance and transaction-history information in one terminal.
  • Persist per-user dashboard layouts and settings through the service API.

Requirements & limits

The README identifies a hosted terminal at terminal.marketmaker.cc and documents a self-hosted option. Local setup requires Bun 1.0 or later and PostgreSQL 15 or later. A self-hosted installation uses local registration; the hosted terminal is described as using ecosystem single sign-on.

  • The repository describes support for more than 100 exchanges through CCXT; exchange-specific capabilities depend on the connected exchange and provider.
  • Market data and trading calls run through the backend rather than browser-side CCXT.
  • Self-hosting requires a PostgreSQL database and Bun runtime.
  • For self-hosting, the README says exchange credentials are passed per request and held in memory for that call; central SSO accounts keep keys server-side in the associated vault.
  • The MIT with Commons Clause label is shown in the project README.

Source-based practical guide

Set up a self-hosted Profitmaker instance

Install the application, prepare its database, and start the API server and web frontend.

Before you start

  • Bun 1.0 or later
  • PostgreSQL 15 or later
  • A PostgreSQL connection string for DATABASE_URL

Steps

  1. Clone the Profitmaker repository and enter its directory.

  2. Install dependencies with bun install.

  3. Set DATABASE_URL, then run bun db:push from packages/server to prepare the database schema.

  4. Start the API with bun server:dev, then start the frontend with bun dev.

  5. Open the local frontend and register an account to receive a default dashboard.

Expected outcome

A locally running terminal and API backed by PostgreSQL, with a default dashboard after account registration.

Guide limitations

  • This setup guide does not configure exchange credentials or demonstrate placing trades.
  • The documented local frontend and API use ports 8080 and 3001 respectively.
