Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when beginning an Ethereum dApp and you want a Next.js structure with wallet integration and starter patterns for contract reads and writes.
Who it is for
- Developers starting an Ethereum dApp with Next.js and wallet connection.
- Builders who want examples for reading contract data or submitting transactions.
Documented uses
- Batch-read a token balance, decimals, name, symbol and total supply.
- Submit a token mint transaction and represent pending, confirming and confirmed states.
- Organize contract ABIs, addresses, helper functions and reusable hooks in a Next.js project.
Requirements & limits
- Local setup requires a WalletConnect Project ID stored as NEXT_PUBLIC_PROJECT_ID in .env.local.
- The documented stack is Next.js 14, Wagmi v2, RainbowKit and TypeScript.
- Extending the example to another contract requires adding its ABI and addresses and creating or adapting the related helpers and hook.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the starter locally
Configure the WalletConnect project ID, install dependencies and start the Next.js development server.
Before you start
- A WalletConnect Project ID obtained from WalletConnect Cloud.
- pnpm.
Steps
Set NEXT_PUBLIC_PROJECT_ID in a .env.local file.
Run pnpm install.
Run pnpm dev.
Expected outcome
The project is configured and the documented local development server command has been run.
Guide limitations
- The setup instructions do not describe deploying the application.
