Practical overview
When it fits
Use CVNets when your work involves training or evaluating computer-vision networks in a Python and PyTorch workflow and you want repository examples spanning several tasks and model families.
Who it is for
- Researchers developing or comparing computer-vision models.
- Engineers who need a Python toolkit for training classification, detection or segmentation networks.
- Developers exploring mobile vision models or CLIP workflows.
Documented uses
- Train image-classification models, including listed CNN and transformer families.
- Train object detectors such as SSD or Mask R-CNN.
- Train semantic-segmentation models such as DeepLabv3 or PSPNet.
- Explore augmentation and distillation techniques in model-training workflows.
- Use the provided guidance to explore conversion of PyTorch models to CoreML.
Requirements & limits
- The project recommends Python 3.10+ and PyTorch 1.12+.
- The documented installation uses Conda and installs the repository package in editable mode.
- The repository separates general instructions, model examples, and the model zoo, so users can consult task-specific starting points.
- CoreML conversion is described as a separate example path for PyTorch models.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install CVNets in a Conda environment
Prepare the documented Python environment and install the CVNets package.
Before you start
- Python 3.10 or newer
- PyTorch 1.12 or newer
- Conda
Steps
Clone the CVNets repository and change into its directory.
Create and activate a Conda environment using Python 3.10.8.
Install requirements with the repository's requirements.txt and constraints.txt files.
Install the package in editable mode.
Expected outcome
CVNets is installed in the activated Conda environment; the repository's getting-started instructions and examples are the next stage for training or evaluation.
Guide limitations
- The installation instructions recommend Python 3.10+ and PyTorch 1.12+.
- This setup sequence does not itself run a training or evaluation job.
