Practical overview

When it fits

Use Meadow when Solidity contract work is being developed or tested through a C#/.NET workflow and you need contract tests, coverage data or debugging support.

Who it is for

  • Solidity developers who want to test contracts from a C#/.NET project.
  • Developers who need Solidity coverage reports or tools to inspect reverts and exceptions.
  • Teams working in Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio or JetBrains Rider.

Documented uses

  • Create a Meadow project from its .NET template.
  • Run parallel unit tests against Solidity contracts using a personal Ethereum test node.
  • Generate HTML or JSON reports for Solidity line, branch and function coverage.
  • Use C# contract classes to deploy contracts, send transactions, call functions and make RPC requests.
  • Investigate Solidity failures with stack traces and debugger controls.

Requirements & limits

The repository specifies the MIT license. Its quick-start instructions require .NET Core SDK v2.1.4 or higher.

  • The tool suite is written in C# with .NET Core, so its workflow is built around C# projects and IDEs.
  • The documented quick start requires .NET Core SDK v2.1.4 or higher.
  • Coverage output includes HTML and JSON reports for line, branch and function execution.
  • The VS Code Solidity debugger documents breakpoints, stepping, rewinding, call stacks and local/state variable inspection.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Create a Meadow project from the template

Set up a Meadow project directory using the documented .NET template steps.

Before you start

  • .NET Core SDK v2.1.4 or higher
  • A new directory for the project

Steps

  1. Install the .NET Core SDK v2.1.4 or higher.

  2. In the new project directory, run dotnet new -i Meadow.ProjectTemplate.

  3. Run dotnet new meadow.

  4. Open the project directory in VS Code or a C# IDE.

Expected outcome

A project is created from the Meadow template and opened in an editor.

Guide limitations

  • These setup steps do not cover writing or running tests; consult the unit-testing guide for that next stage.
