Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Eth Vue when beginning a Vue-based Ethereum dApp and you want an existing Truffle structure with authentication-related contracts and documented Ganache or Ropsten configuration.

Who it is for

  • Developers starting a Vue 3 interface for an Ethereum dApp.
  • Developers who want a Truffle project with smart-contract authentication and a local Ganache development option.

Documented uses

  • Start an Ethereum dApp project with Vue 3, Vuex state management, persisted app state, and Vue Router.
  • Use smart contracts for the dApp’s authentication functionality.
  • Configure Truffle to connect to a running Ganache blockchain for local development and testing.
  • Compile and migrate contracts using the project’s network configuration.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The project is available as a public GitHub repository and is licensed under GPL-3.0.

  • The documented stack is Truffle 5, Vue 3, Vuex, vuex-persist, and Vue Router.
  • Authentication functionality is handled by smart contracts running on Ethereum.
  • The README names Ropsten as its default test-network configuration and supports configuring a running Ganache instance.
  • The setup requires local configuration of the network, port, network ID, and unlocked account.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up Eth Vue for a local Ganache network

Unbox or clone the starter and configure its Truffle development network to use a running Ganache blockchain.

Before you start

  • Truffle
  • A development directory
  • A running Ganache blockchain
  • An unlocked account for the configured network

Steps

  1. Install Truffle with yarn global add truffle.

  2. In a development directory, run truffle unbox DOkwufulueze/eth-vue, or clone the repository and enter its directory.

  3. If you cloned the repository, install its dependencies with yarn install; unboxing installs dependencies by default.

  4. Edit truffle.js to use Ganache’s default port, 7545, and add an unlocked account in the from field. Set src/util/constants.js to the network ID used for the selected network.

  5. Point your Ethereum provider to a Custom RPC on port 7545.

Expected outcome

The starter is configured to connect Truffle and an Ethereum provider to a running Ganache blockchain.

Guide limitations

  • The README describes configuration and compilation/migration workflows but does not establish that this guide was executed.
  • Ganache installation and startup instructions are referred to separately.
  • The README notes that node-gyp may need installation or rebuilding if unboxing fails for that reason.
Source-based practical guide

Configure and migrate the starter to a selected network

Prepare the Truffle Box’s network settings and follow its documented contract compilation and migration stages.

Before you start

  • Truffle
  • The eth-vue project unboxed or cloned
  • A configured target network and an unlocked account

Steps

  1. Set the development network host, port, network ID, and unlocked account in truffle.js.

  2. Set APPROVED_NETWORK_ID in src/util/constants.js to the intended network ID, adding a network entry if needed.

  3. Compile the contracts with truffle compile.

  4. Migrate the contracts with truffle migrate, adding --network ropsten when using the default Ropsten configuration as described in the README.

Expected outcome

The project’s contracts are compiled and the migration command is directed to the configured network.

Guide limitations

  • The README identifies Ropsten as a test network and the default network setting; it does not establish current network availability.
  • Network access and valid account configuration are required for migration.
  • These are documented instructions, not a verified deployment.
