Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when preparing NLP data or adding text variations to a spaCy workflow, especially when label handling matters to the training task.
Who it is for
- NLP developers using spaCy pipelines
- Teams preparing training examples for text classification or other NLP tasks
Documented uses
- Add text augmentation to a spaCy NLP pipeline.
- Create altered examples for NLP training data.
- Combine and moderate augmentation steps.
- Use augmenters that can adjust assigned labels after text changes.
Requirements & limits
The repository documents installation with pip and identifies the project as MIT-licensed open-source software.
- The basic pip installation is minimal; some augmenters need additional packages.
- Entity-based transformations depend on spaCy's entity detection and model-specific labels.
- The repository specifies Python 3.8 or later.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install Augmenty and prepare a spaCy text example
Install the library and follow the documented entity-replacement example to produce an augmented document.
Before you start
- Python 3.8 or later
- spaCy and the en_core_web_md model for the shown example
- A terminal with pip
Steps
Install the minimal package with the command below; use the command below if you need the documented additional dependencies.
pip install augmentypip install "augmenty[all]"Load
en_core_web_mdwith spaCy and process a sentence into a spaCy document.Load
ents_replace_v1with an entity dictionary, then pass the document toaugmenty.docswith the augmenter and NLP pipeline.
Expected outcome
The example replaces the detected entity “Augmenty” with “spaCy Universe” in the processed sentence.
Guide limitations
- The example depends on spaCy detecting the entity; the repository cautions that detection is not 100% reliable and labels may vary by model.
- Some augmenters require additional packages.
