Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Lnme when you have an LND node and want to operate your own Lightning payment page, address or website widget rather than rely on a separately hosted checkout.

Who it is for

  • Individuals or small organizations that want a self-hosted Lightning payment page or address.
  • Website owners who want to embed a Lightning payment widget or create invoices from JavaScript.
  • Operators with an existing LND node who can configure and host an application connected to it.

Documented uses

  • Publish a personal Lightning payment page connected to an existing node.
  • Provide a Lightning Address payment destination.
  • Embed a payment widget on an existing website.
  • Create Lightning invoices from existing JavaScript using the invoice API.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

  • A running LND node is required; the README identifies LND as currently supported.
  • Connection setup requires the node address, TLS certificate and macaroon, with documented invoice permissions.
  • When WebLN is unavailable, the payment page can show a QR code and invoice.
  • The README documents an executable, source build and Docker image as deployment routes.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Run Lnme with an existing LND node

Start the Lnme executable with the connection details and permissions required to connect to LND.

Before you start

  • A running LND node reachable by Lnme.
  • The LND gRPC address, TLS certificate and macaroon.
  • Read/write permission for invoices; write permission for address if using the on-chain option.

Steps

  1. Download a release binary from the project releases.

  2. Configure the LND address, certificate and macaroon using command-line flags, environment variables or a TOML configuration file.

  3. Run lnme.

Expected outcome

Lnme is started as a service connected to the configured LND node.

Guide limitations

  • LND is the node implementation identified as supported in the README.
  • The README says the listening port must be accessible for deployment.
