Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a ComfyUI workflow needs to call fal.ai models or use its media and data utilities. The repository documents installation and key configuration for an existing ComfyUI setup.
Who it is for
- ComfyUI users who want to call fal.ai models from visual workflows.
- Workflow builders combining multiple fal.ai endpoints or handling media between model calls.
Documented uses
- Add fal.ai image, video or audio generation to a ComfyUI workflow.
- Call fal.ai language or vision-language models as workflow steps.
- Prepare and pass media between model endpoints.
- Reduce repeated calls with persistent result caching or set session spend and balance limits.
- Submit asynchronous work across multiple fal.ai models.
Requirements & limits
The primary service action requires a fal API key. The repository is public and licensed under Apache-2.0; the nodes are installed into ComfyUI.
- This package connects ComfyUI to fal.ai; it does not host the models.
- Manual installation requires using ComfyUI’s Python environment to install dependencies.
- The README describes both hand-written nodes and generated nodes, with dynamic-node configuration controls.
- Caching and spend guards are available, but the README’s default spend budget and balance floor are disabled at zero.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the nodes and configure fal access
Add ComfyUI-fal-API to an existing ComfyUI installation and configure its fal API key.
Before you start
- A working ComfyUI installation
- A fal API key
- ComfyUI Manager, or access to ComfyUI’s custom-nodes directory and Python environment
Steps
In ComfyUI Manager, search for ComfyUI-fal-API and install it; alternatively, clone the repository into ComfyUI’s custom-nodes directory.
For a manual installation, install the repository’s requirements using ComfyUI’s Python environment.
Copy config.ini.example to config.ini in the node directory and add the key, or set the FAL_KEY environment variable.
Restart ComfyUI and find the nodes in the FAL categories or search by model name.
Expected outcome
The FAL nodes are available in ComfyUI, with the fal key configured for model calls.
Guide limitations
- This covers installation and configuration; it does not verify a model call or guarantee compatibility with a particular ComfyUI setup.
- The README requires ComfyUI’s own Python environment for manual dependency installation.
