Opencode MEM0

Opencode MEM0 is a TypeScript plugin for OpenCode that gives coding agents persistent memory using a local SQLite database and usearch vector search. It supports automatic conversation capture, explicit memory management and hybrid vector/full-text search, with a local embedding model.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when an OpenCode coding agent needs persistent, searchable context stored on the local machine rather than only within a conversation.

Who it is for

  • OpenCode users who want coding agents to retain project or user context across conversations.
  • Developers seeking locally stored agent memories and direct controls to search, list or delete them.

Documented uses

  • Capture useful information from agent conversations for later retrieval.
  • Add, search, list and delete memories through the agent’s memory tool.
  • Store and search user preferences and past conversation transcripts.
  • Restore relevant memory context after an OpenCode session is compacted.

Requirements & limits

The primary setup requires installing and configuring the plugin in OpenCode. The project documents Bun 1.0+ for Linux/macOS or Node.js 20+ for any platform.

  • Automatic capture requires a configured memory provider; without one, manual memory tools and the Web UI remain usable.
  • The first OpenCode launch downloads an approximately 547 MB embedding model, cached for later runs.
  • The plugin documents a local Web UI at http://127.0.0.1:4747.
  • The repository identifies the project as MIT-licensed and TypeScript.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install and initialize the OpenCode plugin

Set up the plugin and its local configuration and data directories.

Before you start

  • OpenCode
  • Bun 1.0 or later on Linux/macOS, or Node.js 20 or later on any platform

Steps

  1. Install the package with the command below.

    Documented command
    npm install opencode-mem0
  2. Add opencode-mem0 to the plugin array in opencode.json.

  3. Run the command below to create the configuration and data directory.

    Documented command
    npx opencode-mem0 init
  4. Start OpenCode; its first launch downloads and caches the local embedding model.

Expected outcome

The plugin is initialized for OpenCode, and its Web UI is documented at `http://127.0.0.1:4747`.

Guide limitations

  • Without a memory provider configured, automatic capture is skipped; manual memory tools and the Web UI still work.
  • The first launch downloads an approximately 547 MB embedding model.
