Rust Solana Wallet

Rust Solana Wallet is an open-source, Rust-based command-line example for managing Solana keypairs and SOL. It uses BIP39 mnemonics and documents commands to generate or recover keypairs, display a public key, retrieve a balance by public key, and send SOL. Keypair data is stored in local JSON files.

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when you want to explore a Rust-based Solana wallet example or work with its documented command-line key and SOL operations.

Who it is for

  • Rust developers studying a Solana wallet example.
  • Solana users who want the documented command-line keypair, balance and SOL transfer operations.

Documented uses

  • Generate a BIP39 mnemonic and derive a Solana keypair.
  • Recover a keypair and seed from a mnemonic phrase.
  • Display a stored keypair's public key and check a balance by public key.
  • Send SOL to a recipient address.
  • Derive multiple keypairs from one seed using BIP44 paths.

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and identifies an MIT license. The README lists Rust 1.90.0 or later and Cargo as prerequisites.

  • The project is a command-line example, not a completed graphical wallet; the GUI is listed on its roadmap.
  • The README marks the project as under development and lists hardware-wallet support and SPL tokens as roadmap items.
  • The generation flow displays mnemonic and seed material and writes keypair data locally.
  • The documented setup includes copying .env.example to .env; multiple derivations require NB_DERIVATIONS greater than zero.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the Rust Solana Wallet repository

Prepare the documented project files before using its wallet commands.

Before you start

  • Rust 1.90.0 or later
  • Cargo

Steps

  1. Clone the repository from its GitHub URL.

  2. Change into the cloned project directory.

  3. Copy .env.example to .env.

Expected outcome

The repository is cloned and has a local environment file copied from the example.

Guide limitations

  • These setup steps do not cover running a wallet command.
  • The project is described as under development.

Generate a mnemonic and store a Solana keypair

Use the documented command to create a BIP39 mnemonic and write its keypair to a local JSON file.

Before you start

  • Rust 1.90.0 or later and Cargo
  • A cloned repository with the .env file prepared

Steps

  1. From the project directory, run the command below.

    Documented command
    cargo run -- generate_seed
  2. Enter an optional passphrase when prompted, or leave it blank.

  3. Review the displayed mnemonic, seed and public key; the generated keypair is written to the configured local JSON path.

Expected outcome

A mnemonic and corresponding Solana keypair are generated, with keypair data written locally.

Guide limitations

  • The command displays sensitive mnemonic and seed material.
  • The README describes the project as under development.
