Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when an application needs an LndHub-compatible backend for Lightning accounts and you can operate LND and PostgreSQL.
Who it is for
- Operators building or running Lightning wallet services that need separate user accounts.
- Developers integrating applications that expect an LndHub-compatible API.
Documented uses
- Provide an API backend for Lightning wallet applications.
- Maintain separate accounts for end users backed by a relational database.
- Configure service-level account creation, limits, fees and payment-event webhooks.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under GPL-3.0. Its documentation links to a live deployment and API documentation.
- Requires a configured LND instance and PostgreSQL database.
- Supports Lightning functionality only; on-chain operations are excluded.
- Configuration includes controls for account creation, limits, service fees, rate limits and optional payment webhooks.
- Written in Go and described as a simple executable with no runtime dependencies.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Configure Lndhub.go for an existing LND node
Prepare the service configuration for a PostgreSQL-backed LndHub-compatible Lightning account backend.
Before you start
- A PostgreSQL database and its connection URI.
- An LND gRPC address, certificate and macaroon, supplied as file paths or encoded contents.
Steps
Copy .env_example to .env and edit the configuration.
Set DATABASE_URI and LND_ADDRESS.
Provide LND certificate and macaroon values using the documented file or hex-encoded configuration options.
Set JWT_SECRET and adjust other documented settings, such as account creation controls, limits or fees, if needed.
Expected outcome
A configuration file containing the documented database, LND connection and service settings.
Guide limitations
- This recipe covers configuration only, not starting or validating a deployment.
- The service requires PostgreSQL and LND; it does not provide on-chain functionality.
