Practical overview
When it fits
Use Raggenie when assembling a custom RAG chatbot around connected data and, where needed, adding configured actions to the conversation.
Who it is for
- Developers building conversational applications over structured or document-based data.
- Teams creating distinct internal chatbots for different tasks and knowledge bases.
Documented uses
- Build a chat interface that answers questions using connected databases, documents, CSV files or website content.
- Configure chat capabilities that collect required parameters and trigger actions, including database fetches and inserts.
- Embed a chat widget in a website or portal using the documented JavaScript UI plugin.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository identifies Raggenie as open source under the MIT license.
- Listed model inference providers are OpenAI, Together.ai, Ollama and AI71.
- The README documents a Python backend and offers pip or Poetry dependency installation.
- The documented local identity setup uses Docker and Docker Compose with Zitadel.
- The repository describes the project as early-stage and says its current focus is making RAG applications easier to build.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install backend dependencies and prepare Zitadel
Follow the repository’s documented backend dependency and local Zitadel setup stages.
Before you start
- A Python environment for the backend
- Docker and Docker Compose
- The Raggenie repository and its requirements.txt
Steps
Install backend dependencies with the command below, or use the documented Poetry installation path and run
poetry install.pip install -r requirements.txtStart the Zitadel container with
docker-compose -f zitadel-docker-compose.yaml up -d.Open
http://localhost:8080and sign in with the default credentials listed in the README.Create a service user, set its access token type to JWT, create and download a key, and assign the user Org Owner permission.
Expected outcome
Backend dependencies are installed and the README’s local Zitadel setup reaches the service-user and key configuration stage.
Guide limitations
- The README continues with identity-provider and environment-variable configuration; this guide does not cover the remaining setup or running Raggenie.
- Repository instructions do not establish that setup will work unchanged in every environment.
