Practical overview
When it fits
Use AICON when you want a visual workflow for coordinating several AI-assisted video-production stages and want to configure the model services yourself. It is especially relevant when self-hosting and editing the links between workflow nodes matter.
Who it is for
- Video creators who want to organize script, storyboard and media-generation stages in one editable canvas.
- Self-hosting users who can configure Docker and the services required by the deployment.
- Creators who want to choose and configure compatible model providers.
Documented uses
- Break a script into characters, scenes and shots and develop it into a storyboard.
- Connect text, image and video nodes into an editable production workflow.
- Generate chapter illustrations, voiceovers and subtitles for a narrated video.
- Manage generated assets, synthesize a video and connect the workflow to Bilibili distribution.
Requirements & limits
The project documents Docker self-hosting and an online experience. For model generation, users configure compatible services with their own API credentials; model-call costs are charged by the selected provider.
- The natural-language assistant creates canvas nodes and links, while users manually trigger generation.
- Self-hosting requires Docker, Docker Compose v2 and configuration for database, Redis, JWT and MinIO.
- Custom model providers can be configured when they support the expected API protocol and models.
- AICON is released under Apache License 2.0.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare a self-hosted AICON installation
Set up the documented Docker deployment and reach the stage where a model service can be configured.
Before you start
- Docker
- Docker Compose v2
- Configuration values for the database, Redis, JWT and MinIO
- API credentials for a compatible model service
Steps
Clone the AICON repository and change into its project directory.
Copy .env.production.example to .env.production and fill in the database, Redis, JWT and MinIO configuration.
Start the deployment with the documented Docker Compose production file.
Open the application at http://localhost and configure the model service in API key management.
Expected outcome
A self-hosted AICON instance is started, with model-service configuration available before creating a project or canvas.
Guide limitations
- This setup recipe does not describe a completed generation workflow.
- Generation tasks must be triggered manually.
- Model-call charges come from the selected provider.
