Practical overview
When it fits
Use the library when Ethereum derivation or signing belongs inside a Go application, or the CLI when deriving an address directly from mnemonic and path inputs.
Who it is for
- Go developers building software that needs Ethereum account derivation from mnemonic seeds.
- Developers integrating a wallet implementation with go-ethereum’s `accounts.Wallet` interface.
- Users who need a command-line tool to derive and display an address from a mnemonic and path.
Documented uses
- Derive one or more Ethereum addresses using chosen derivation paths.
- Use a Go wallet implementation through go-ethereum’s wallet interface.
- Sign a transaction with a derived wallet account.
- Display an address from mnemonic and path inputs in the CLI.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository identifies the project as MIT-licensed and documents Go package and CLI installation.
- The library is written in Go and implements go-ethereum’s
accounts.Walletinterface. - The CLI example prints both the public address and private key.
- The README includes separate examples for address derivation and transaction signing.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the CLI and derive an address
Install the documented command-line tool and request an Ethereum address using a mnemonic and derivation path.
Before you start
- Go tooling
- A mnemonic seed
- A derivation path
Steps
Install the CLI with the command below.
go install github.com/miguelmota/go-ethereum-hdwallet/cmd/geth-hdwallet@latestRun
geth-hdwalletwith-mnemonicand-patharguments, using the desired mnemonic and derivation path.
Expected outcome
The CLI displays a public address and private key for the supplied mnemonic and path.
Guide limitations
- The documented output includes a private key.
- The example covers derivation and display, not sending a transaction.
Derive accounts in a Go program
Use the Go package to create a wallet from a mnemonic and derive addresses along specified paths.
Before you start
- A Go application
- The
github.com/miguelmota/go-ethereum-hdwalletpackage - A mnemonic seed and derivation path
Steps
Install the package with the command below.
go get -u github.com/miguelmota/go-ethereum-hdwalletCreate a wallet with
hdwallet.NewFromMnemonicand handle the returned error.Parse a derivation path with
hdwallet.MustParseDerivationPathand callwallet.Derive.Read the derived address from
account.Address.Hex().
Expected outcome
The program can obtain and print an Ethereum address for the selected derivation path; the README example repeats derivation with a second path.
Guide limitations
- The example derives accounts and prints addresses; transaction signing is shown separately in the README.
Compare options for Wallet connections
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
