Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when beginning a wallet-connected dApp interface and you want the documented Next.js, Ethereum-library and UI stack with starter wallet functions already included.

Who it is for

  • Developers starting an Ethereum dApp front end
  • Builders who want a foundation for wallet-connected interfaces and token-balance views

Documented uses

  • Create a Next.js and TypeScript project foundation for a web3 application
  • Add wallet connection status and chain selection to a dApp interface
  • Display wallet balance and chain information
  • Build on starter functions for signing messages, transferring native tokens and querying token balances
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and lists an MIT license. The README provides local setup instructions and a Docker launch option.

  • Requires Node.js 20.9.0 or later, TypeScript, and one of Bun, pnpm, Yarn or npm.
  • A browser wallet is listed among setup prerequisites.
  • A WalletConnect project ID is required for WalletConnect v2.
  • The listed features are interface and starter functions; application-specific behavior must be built on top.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install and start the starter locally

Set up the repository and launch its development server on a local machine.

Before you start

  • Node.js 20.9.0 or later
  • TypeScript
  • Bun, pnpm, Yarn or npm
  • MetaMask or another web3-compatible browser wallet
  • A WalletConnect project ID in the .env file for WalletConnect v2

Steps

  1. Clone the repository with git clone https://github.com/Pedrojok01/Next-Web3-Boilerplate.git .

  2. Install dependencies using bun install, pnpm install, yarn install or npm install.

  3. Rename .env.example to .env and add the WalletConnect project ID as NEXT_PUBLIC_WALLETCONNECT_PROJECT_ID.

  4. Start the development server with bun dev, pnpm dev, yarn dev or npm run dev, then open http://localhost:3000.

Expected outcome

The project’s development server runs locally for viewing the starter interface.

Guide limitations

  • The steps launch the starter; they do not configure application-specific contracts or product features.
  • WalletConnect v2 requires a project ID.
