Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when ComfyUI is available and you want to prompt, review and refine images without doing the everyday interaction in its node graph.
Who it is for
- People who already use ComfyUI and want a prompt-and-gallery interface for everyday image generation.
- ComfyUI users who want to bring their existing workflows into a simpler set of controls.
- Users seeking a documented inpainting interface for supported image model families.
Documented uses
- Write prompts and generate images through a connected ComfyUI instance.
- Review generated images in a gallery and adjust prompts or model settings.
- Import a ComfyUI workflow and use its controls through the front end.
- Use the beta inpainting feature to change a selected part of an image.
Requirements & limits
The project is described as free and open source under the MIT license. Prebuilt downloads are listed for Windows x64, macOS Apple Silicon and Linux x64.
- ComfyUI remains a separate requirement and runs each generation job.
- The app connects automatically to documented local ComfyUI ports; a different machine or port requires setting the connection address.
- The prebuilt downloads include Node.js and packages; source installation requires Node.js 20.9 or newer.
- Inpainting is labeled beta and is documented for 18 image families.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up Heiss UI with a running ComfyUI instance
Open the Heiss UI browser interface and connect it to ComfyUI.
Before you start
- A supported Windows x64, macOS Apple Silicon or Linux x64 system for the listed prebuilt downloads.
- ComfyUI running on the same computer or its connection address for a different machine or port.
Steps
Download the matching system zip from the project’s latest release and unpack it.
Start Heiss UI using the included platform launcher, or run npm start in the unpacked folder.
Leave ComfyUI running; the app connects automatically on the documented local ports, or set another ComfyUI address in Settings › Connection.
Expected outcome
The Heiss UI studio opens in a browser and connects to the specified ComfyUI instance.
Guide limitations
- The guide connects the interface to ComfyUI; it does not install or configure ComfyUI models or workflows.
- The listed prebuilt downloads cover Windows x64, macOS Apple Silicon and Linux x64.
Install Heiss UI from source
Install the repository’s dependencies and start its development version.
Before you start
- Node.js 20.9 or newer; the README recommends Node.js 22 LTS or newer.
- A running ComfyUI instance for model, sampler and VAE information to appear after connection.
Steps
Clone the repository into a folder named heiss-ui.
Change into that folder and run npm install.
Run npm start to open the browser interface.
If ComfyUI uses another machine or port, set its address in Settings › Connection or configure COMFY_URL in a .env file copied from .env.example.
Expected outcome
The source-installed interface opens at localhost:8787 or the next available port, and can be configured to connect to ComfyUI.
Guide limitations
- The documented source-install instructions describe starting the interface, not running image-generation jobs or deploying the app.
