Blocksense

Blocksense is an oracle network with a WebAssembly-based SDK for building blockchain oracles that retrieve internet data and perform CPU or GPU computations. Its reporting uses SchellingCoin-based consensus and zero-knowledge proofs.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Blocksense when a blockchain application needs internet-sourced or computed data feeds, or when assessing the documented Reporter Node operator workflow.

Who it is for

  • Smart contract developers building applications that need external data feeds
  • Developers creating oracle jobs with data retrieval or computation
  • Node operators evaluating the Blocksense Reporter Node

Documented uses

  • Build data feeds from arbitrary internet sources for on-chain use
  • Compute feed values using CPU or GPU workloads
  • Provide data inputs for DeFi and prediction-market applications
  • Run a Reporter Node that connects to the network and reports configured feed updates
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The Reporter Node guide says prospective operators should join a waitlist. Its setup requires configuration files provided by the Blocksense team.

  • The SDK is WebAssembly-based and supports arbitrary internet sources plus CPU or GPU computation.
  • The project describes zero-knowledge-proof-secured reporting and SchellingCoin-based consensus.
  • Reporter Node operation uses an OCI image and requires outbound network connections and a reachable Prometheus Gateway.
  • The monorepo is licensed under MIT.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up a Blocksense Reporter Node on Ubuntu 24 with Docker

Prepare a local Reporter Node instance and start it with configuration files supplied by the Blocksense team.

Before you start

  • Ubuntu 24 machine
  • Docker
  • Blocksense Reporter Node OCI image
  • Reporter and feed configuration files provided by the Blocksense team
  • Outbound connections to the Blocksense network and external data providers

Steps

  1. Install Docker with the documented Ubuntu package commands, then start and enable the Docker service.

  2. Pull the Blocksense Reporter Node OCI image.

  3. Create a configuration directory and place the provided configuration files in it.

  4. Set FEEDS_CONFIG_DIR, REPORTER_CONFIG_DIR and RUST_LOG, then run the Reporter Node container.

Expected outcome

The Reporter Node connects to the Blocksense network and waits for a signal to start reporting feed updates.

Guide limitations

  • The documented operator path begins with joining the Reporter Node waitlist.
  • Configuration files must be provided by the Blocksense team.
  • The guide documents local Ubuntu 24 and Docker setup; it does not provide cloud-specific deployment steps.
