Practical overview
When it fits
Use Skillspec when reviewing agent-skill instructions or adding structured requirements and inspectable follow-through records to a skill workflow.
Who it is for
- Developers who write or maintain agent skills.
- Teams that want to review skill risks and make instructions, required checks, and expected proof more explicit.
Documented uses
- Generate a risk report for a skill before relying on it.
- Turn skill instructions into a contract describing routes, prohibitions, dependencies, checks, and proof.
- Inspect a record to assess whether an agent followed a skill.
- Use guided imports to bring skills into a project.
Requirements & limits
The project is open source under the Apache-2.0 license. The README documents a CLI installer, Cargo installation, and a hosted-page trial for public skill URLs.
- Skillspec works at the skill layer and does not require a new agent runtime or orchestration platform.
- A structured contract uses a
skill.spec.ymlalongside the skill'sSKILL.md. - The documented Doctor report surfaces potential issues; an inspected alignment record is a separate follow-through mechanism.
- The README documents plugin installation paths for Claude Code and Codex.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Review a skill with Doctor
Generate a risk report for a local skill or public GitHub skill URL.
Before you start
- Skillspec CLI installed, or access to the hosted page for a public skill URL.
- A skill path, local folder, or public GitHub URL.
Steps
For a local skill, run
skillspec doctor ./my-skillwith the path replaced by the skill to review. For a public skill URL, paste it into the hosted page at https://skillspec.sh/.
Expected outcome
A Doctor risk report identifies potential follow-through issues in the skill.
Guide limitations
- The documented example reports risks; it does not establish that an agent execution has been tested.
- The hosted-page trial is documented for public skill URLs.
