Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when editing Solidity or Yul in Zed; for Solidity, it adds language-server assistance, while Yul support is limited to highlighting and structural editor features.
Who it is for
- Solidity developers who use Zed and want diagnostics, completions and go-to-definition while editing contracts.
- Developers editing Yul who need syntax highlighting, code outline, indentation and bracket matching.
- Foundry users who want to configure example Forge test tasks in Zed.
Documented uses
- Inspect Solidity diagnostics and access code completions or go-to-definition while editing.
- Read and navigate Solidity or Yul code with highlighting and structural editor features.
- Configure Zed tasks to invoke Forge for a selected test or contract test.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under MIT.
- Standalone Yul files do not receive language-server support.
- Foundry test tasks are example configurations that invoke Forge; they are not a built-in test runner.
- The README recommends the XY-Zed theme for its syntax colors.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Add example Foundry test tasks to Zed
Configure Zed tasks to invoke Forge for an individual Solidity test or a contract test.
Before you start
- Zed
- A Foundry project with Forge available to the task
- The zed-solidity repository's example tasks and runnable definitions
Steps
Use the example task definitions in the repository's .zed/tasks.json as the starting point.
Connect the tasks to the Solidity runnable tags described in the repository's runnables.scm.
Optionally add the documented keymap binding to run the test task for the symbol under the cursor.
Expected outcome
Zed has example task configurations for invoking Forge on an individual test or contract test, with an optional keyboard shortcut.
Guide limitations
- The repository provides examples rather than a bundled test runner.
- Forge must be available to the task, and the example configuration must fit the project's Zed setup.
