Practical overview
When it fits
Use this repository when you need Concordium node infrastructure or want to develop against its node and consensus components. Its documentation points to a local-chain guide for running a node from source.
Who it is for
- Operators building or running a Concordium peer-to-peer node.
- Developers working on Concordium consensus, node components, or tools that depend on its packages and APIs.
Documented uses
- Build a node that participates in the Concordium network.
- Work with the consensus implementation, including finalization, scheduling, and block and tree storage.
- Collect information from a node and provide summary data to a backend used by the network dashboard.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under AGPL-3.0.
- The implementation is split across Rust networking and Haskell consensus packages.
- A recursive clone or initialized submodules is needed to include Concordium Base and the gRPC API definitions.
- The documented Rust build workflow uses stable Rust 1.82; the Haskell workflow typically uses Stack and requires Rust dependencies to be built first.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Prepare the Concordium node repository and its submodules
Check out the node source with its referenced submodule dependencies available.
Before you start
- Git access to the Concordium node repository.
Steps
Clone the repository recursively, or clone it and run the command below.
git submodule update --init --recursiveAfter changing branches, run the command below to initialize or update the submodules.
git submodule update --init --recursive
Expected outcome
The repository and its submodules, including the referenced concordium-base and concordium-grpc-api repositories, are initialized.
Guide limitations
- This prepares the source tree only; it does not build or run the node.
- Build instructions are in concordium-node/README.md; the repository also points to docs/local-chain.md for running a node from source.
