Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when you need to run the documented dfuse services with EOSIO locally or in a container, either for a development chain or while syncing an existing network.

Who it is for

  • EOSIO developers setting up a local development chain.
  • Operators running dfuse services against an existing EOSIO chain.
  • Teams developing EOSIO data, streaming or search workflows.

Documented uses

  • Bootstrap a local EOSIO development chain with a producing node.
  • Run dfuse services against an existing chain.
  • Use packaged EOSIO components for data access, streaming and search workflows.

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and licensed under Apache-2.0. The README describes pre-built releases and source builds; source builds require Git, Go 1.14 or later, and Yarn 1.15 or later.

  • The documented operating systems are Linux and macOS; Windows is not supported in the README, and WSL2 is untested.
  • An instrumented nodeos binary (Deep Mind) is required.
  • Existing-chain synchronization time depends on chain size, and services may log errors before catching up.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Initialize and start a new local EOSIO development chain

Create a local chain with dfuse services and a block-producing node managed by `dfuseeos`.

Before you start

  • Linux or macOS; WSL2 is described as untested.
  • An instrumented nodeos binary (Deep Mind).
  • A dfuseeos binary from a pre-built release or built from source.

Steps

  1. Run dfuseeos init in the working directory.

  2. Answer yes when prompted to have dfuse for EOSIO run a producing node.

  3. Optionally copy the documented boot sequence to bootseq.yaml with the provided wget command.

  4. Run dfuseeos start.

Expected outcome

The instance starts its listed applications and reports local dashboard, explorer/API and GraphiQL addresses.

Guide limitations

  • The boot-sequence download is optional.
  • The README lists Linux and macOS; WSL2 is untested.
