Practical overview
When it fits
Consider Beerus when evaluating a stateless Starknet client or implementing local state queries with proof verification, provided you can meet its provider requirements and account for its paused development.
Who it is for
- Developers building Starknet applications that need to query state through a local service.
- Teams evaluating proof-based, trust-minimized Starknet state access.
- Rust developers exploring or adapting a Starknet light-client implementation.
Documented uses
- Run a local JSON-RPC service and request a Starknet state root.
- Configure Starknet RPC and Feeder Gateway endpoints for Beerus.
- Check that a Starknet provider supports the proof extension required by Beerus.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies the project as MIT-licensed.
- Beerus requires a Starknet RPC provider and a Feeder Gateway URL.
- The RPC provider must support Starknet OpenRPC v0.7.1 and Pathfinder's pathfinder_getProof extension.
- The README documents Cargo-based startup and a local JSON-RPC state-root request.
- Development has been on hold since the repository's 7 February 2025 update.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Configure and start Beerus locally
Start Beerus with configured Starknet provider URLs and request a state root through its local JSON-RPC interface.
Before you start
- Rust and Cargo
- A Starknet RPC endpoint supporting OpenRPC v0.7.1 and Pathfinder's pathfinder_getProof extension
- A Feeder Gateway URL
Steps
Copy etc/conf/beerus.toml and set the RPC provider URLs in the copy.
Run the command below.
cargo run --release -- -c ./path/to/config.tomlSend a JSON-RPC
starknet_getStateRootrequest tohttp://127.0.0.1:3030.
Expected outcome
Beerus returns a state-root result through the local JSON-RPC interface when the service is running and its provider configuration is compatible.
Guide limitations
- The RPC provider must support the specified OpenRPC version and Pathfinder proof extension.
- Development was put on hold in February 2025 while Starknet consensus and proof-verification specifications are finalized.
