Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when planning an agent harness or diagnosing design problems involving tools, permissions, workflow orchestration, context and memory, or observability.
Who it is for
- People designing or reviewing AI agent runtime systems.
- Teams working on agents for coding, research, support, operations or other workflows.
Documented uses
- Turn an agent use case into an MVP harness blueprint.
- Review harness designs for runtime weaknesses such as missing budgets, state handling or event traces.
- Structure tool permissions and action handling around validation and authorization.
Requirements & limits
The project is an open-source repository identified as MIT-licensed. Its README documents installation through the skills utility or by cloning into Codex or Claude Code skills directories.
- This is an installable agent skill and reference set, rather than a hosted agent execution platform.
- Its core model assigns action proposals to the model and validation, authorization, execution, recording and observation handling to the harness.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the skill in a Codex or Claude Code skills directory
Place the repository in a user-level or project-level skills directory so a compatible agent can discover it.
Before you start
- A compatible agent environment, such as Codex or Claude Code.
- Git for the manual installation route, or npx and the skills utility for the listed installer route.
Steps
Choose the skills utility, a prompt asking your agent to install the repository, or the manual clone instructions in the README.
For manual installation, clone the repository into the documented Codex or Claude Code skills directory; Claude Code instructions include user-level and project-level paths.
For the prompt-based route, ask the agent to check that SKILL.md, icon.jpeg and the references directory are present and report the installation path.
Expected outcome
The repository is placed in a documented skills directory, with the prompt-based route also asking for a file-presence check and installation path.
Guide limitations
- The README describes installation, not a particular agent task or harness deployment procedure.
- The prompt route requests a verification from the agent; it is not independent confirmation of successful installation.
