Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when an MCP client or Python integration needs structured access to Slither analysis and Solidity project facts during development or contract review.
Who it is for
- Solidity developers who want to query Slither analysis from an MCP-compatible coding assistant.
- Teams building scripts or agents that need structured contract metadata or detector results.
- Developers integrating static-analysis queries into a smart-contract review workflow.
Documented uses
- List contracts and functions with filters.
- Retrieve contract metadata, function source and contract source.
- Inspect function callers and callees, inheritance trees and function implementations.
- Browse available Slither detectors and retrieve results filtered by detector, impact or confidence.
- Access Slither through the included typed Python client.
Requirements & limits
The public GitHub repository declares an AGPL-3.0 license. The README requires Python 3.11+, UV, a Solidity compiler setup and Slither with its dependencies. Usage metrics are enabled by default, with a documented `--disable-metrics` opt-out.
- The server is an integration layer for Slither, not a Solidity compiler or MCP client.
- All tools take a path identifying the Solidity project to analyze.
- Foundry, Hardhat or a similar compiler setup is required.
- Slither runs are cached in the target project’s
artifacts/project_facts.jsonfile. - Metrics are enabled by default; the project documents a permanent opt-out flag.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the Slither MCP server
Install the project dependencies and start the server for an MCP client to connect to.
Before you start
- Python 3.11 or newer
- UV package manager
- A Solidity compiler setup such as Foundry or Hardhat
- Slither and its dependencies
Steps
Install project dependencies with the command below, or install in development mode with the command below.
uv syncuv pip install -e .Start the server with the command below.
uv run slither-mcpConfigure an MCP-compatible client using the project’s documented Claude Code or Cursor example.
Expected outcome
The server is launched and configured for connection through an MCP client; its tools accept a project path for Solidity analysis.
Guide limitations
- The project requires a Solidity compiler setup and Slither dependencies.
- The README warns that the API may change as the v1.0 project receives feedback.
- These setup instructions are not a verification that a particular environment or client configuration works.
