Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Slitherin when a Slither-based Solidity review should include its additional checklist-style detector checks, and reviewers can assess potential false positives.

Who it is for

  • Solidity developers who want extra static-analysis checks in project review.
  • Smart-contract auditors who use Slither as part of code review.

Documented uses

  • Run Slitherin’s additional detector checks against a Solidity project.
  • Choose between Slitherin-only checks, Slither-only checks, or both sets in sequence.
  • Run the documented Arbitrum-specific Slitherin detector option.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and licensed under AGPL-3.0. The documented installation options are pip, pipx and Git; Slither is required.

  • Slitherin augments Slither; the repository instructs users to install the original Slither first.
  • Its detectors can produce false positives more frequently than Slither’s original detectors, according to the maintainers.
  • The CLI documents separate options for Slitherin checks, Slither checks, running both, and Arbitrum-specific checks.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Run Slitherin detectors on a project

Choose which detector set to run on a Hardhat, Foundry, Dapp or Brownie application.

Before you start

  • Install Slitherin and Slither.
  • Use a project supported by the documented Slitherin CLI workflow.

Steps

  1. From the project directory, run slitherin . --pess to run only Slitherin detectors.

  2. Use slitherin . --slither to run only Slither detectors, or slitherin . --separated to run Slither followed by Slitherin.

  3. Use slitherin . --arbitrum to run Arbitrum-specific Slitherin detectors.

Expected outcome

The selected detector checks run against the project through Slitherin’s command-line interface.

Guide limitations

  • The maintainers warn that Slitherin detectors can produce false positives more frequently than Slither’s original detectors; findings need review.
