Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when reviewing wallet token permissions or when an existing approval should be removed or limited.

Who it is for

  • Wallet users who want to review token-spending approvals.
  • People who want to remove unneeded contract permissions or reduce an existing allowance.
  • Developers who want to inspect or run the open-source application locally.

Documented uses

  • Inspect contracts approved to spend tokens from a wallet.
  • Revoke a contract’s spending permission.
  • Change an allowance without fully revoking access.

Requirements & limits

The project is a web application and its public repository is open source under the MIT license. Local setup requires Yarn and a configured environment file; chain support depends on the relevant provider or explorer configuration.

  • The core task is managing token approvals, not swapping tokens.
  • Users can revoke permissions or update the approved spending amount.
  • A self-hosted setup requires external data-service or RPC configuration for the networks it supports.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up the Revoke.cash development environment

Install the project dependencies and start its local development server.

Before you start

  • The public Revoke.cash repository
  • Yarn
  • An environment file based on the repository’s .example.env

Steps

  1. Clone the repository and change into its directory.

  2. Run yarn to install dependencies.

  3. Copy .example.env to .env and fill in the configuration required for the chains you plan to support.

  4. Run yarn dev to start the development server.

Expected outcome

The local development server starts with the configured environment.

Guide limitations

  • The repository notes that omitting provider or explorer configuration prevents the application from working for the corresponding chains.
  • WalletConnect will not work without NEXT_PUBLIC_WALLETCONNECT_PROJECT_ID.
  • This setup guide does not verify a deployment or a successful connection to any particular network.
