Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when developing an MCP-based assistant that needs Binance data or account-related tools, rather than when seeking a complete trading agent or standalone exchange app.
Who it is for
- Developers connecting an MCP-compatible assistant or agent to Binance tools.
- Builders prototyping crypto trading assistant workflows that need market information or account operations.
Documented uses
- Retrieve ticker prices, 24-hour statistics and order-book data through an assistant.
- Query balances, account snapshots, fees, available assets and order history.
- Build workflows that can submit market or limit buy and sell orders.
- Inspect futures positions and PnL, and retrieve wallet or liquidation history.
Requirements & limits
The README requires Binance API key and secret values for account access. It documents installation with pip or uv and a Python 3.10+ requirement. The repository is licensed under MIT.
- The integration uses the Model Context Protocol and requires an MCP-compatible client configuration.
- The tool set spans read-oriented market and account queries as well as order creation.
- The README recommends testnet for development; its configuration reference lists testnet as disabled by default.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install and configure the server for an MCP client
Prepare the Python package, Binance credentials and client configuration described in the project README.
Before you start
- Python 3.10 or later
- Binance API key and API secret
- An MCP client with a settings configuration file
Steps
Install the package with pip or uv.
Set BINANCE_API_KEY and BINANCE_API_SECRET as environment variables; set BINANCE_TESTNET to true for the documented testnet configuration.
Add a binance server entry to the MCP client settings, specifying the server command and the API key and secret arguments shown in the README.
Expected outcome
The MCP client has a configuration entry for launching Binance MCP Server with the provided credentials.
Guide limitations
- The guide documents setup and configuration, not a verified connection or successful operation.
- The README identifies Binance API credentials as required for account access and recommends testnet for development.
