Practical overview
When it fits
Use Tsukibot when cryptocurrency lookups and monitoring should happen in Discord, particularly for a community that wants scheduled channel updates or for users who want alerts and tracking there.
Who it is for
- Discord community members who want cryptocurrency prices and market details within server conversations.
- Users who want price alerts, portfolio values or personalized coin watch lists through Discord.
- Developers who want to run their own instance using the repository's documented Docker or manual setup.
Documented uses
- Look up a coin's price, details, chart or market statistics in Discord.
- Compare coins or check exchange-specific price pairs and perpetual swap funding rates.
- Set target-price alerts delivered by direct message.
- Track portfolio value and 24-hour profit and loss, or maintain a personal watch list.
- Schedule recurring market posts in a Discord channel.
Requirements & limits
- The bot is designed for Discord, so its market tools are accessed in that ecosystem.
- The feature list spans quick lookups, charts, alerts, portfolio monitoring and scheduled channel posts.
- Self-hosting requires a PostgreSQL database; the manual route also requires Node 22 or later.
- A CoinGecko demo key is described as speeding market-cache refreshes; the README notes a 10,000-credit monthly cap for that key.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up a self-hosted Tsukibot instance with Docker
Configure the documented Docker deployment and let PostgreSQL initialize from the included schema.
Before you start
- Docker and Docker Compose
- Configuration keys for common/keys.api
- A .env file with POSTGRES_PASSWORD matching the tsukibot value in common/keys.api
Steps
Copy the required keys into common/keys.api.
Set POSTGRES_PASSWORD in .env to match the tsukibot value in the keys file.
Set dbAddress to postgres.
Run docker compose up -d; PostgreSQL initializes from the schema in docs/ on first start.
Expected outcome
The README's Docker-based self-hosting setup is configured and started.
Guide limitations
- Slash-command registration and service-specific configuration may require further setup.
Prepare a manual self-hosted installation
Install dependencies, configure the database and keys, then start the bot and register its slash commands.
Before you start
- Node 22 or later
- A PostgreSQL database created from docs/TsukiBotDB_Schema
- Configuration keys described in docs/How to set up keys file.txt
Steps
Set up PostgreSQL using docs/TsukiBotDB_Schema.
Run npm ci.
Create common/keys.api using the keys-file guide.
Run npm start, then register slash commands with npm run deploy.
Expected outcome
The documented manual installation and slash-command registration steps are completed.
