Practical overview
When it fits
Use Wolfinch when you want to self-host a configurable trading bot and investigate strategies through historical-data import, backtesting or paper trading. Its repository also documents live and manual trading modes, but describes strategies as experimental and provided as-is.
Who it is for
- People who want to run a configurable trading bot on a local computer or VPS.
- Developers and traders exploring exchange integrations, strategy or indicator plugins, and cross-pair or cross-exchange signals.
- Users who want to evaluate configurations with backtesting or paper trading before considering live operation.
Documented uses
- Configure automated or manual trading using YAML settings, strategies and indicators.
- Import historical data and run backtests or genetic optimization.
- Use paper-trading mode to simulate a strategy without placing live trades.
- Monitor trades and use basic controls through the included interface.
- Run a bot across multiple supported exchanges or trading pairs.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under GNU GPL v3.0 or later.
- Wolfinch is a Python application intended for local or VPS operation, not a hosted trading service described in the repository.
- The documented integrations include Coinbase Pro, Binance, Binance US and Robinhood; GDAX is identified as deprecated.
- Docker setup requires separate configuration and data mounts, and the default UI port is 8080.
- The project’s disclaimer describes its strategies as experimental and does not present them as financial advice.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Start Wolfinch in Docker
Run the bot as a Docker container with its configuration and data directories mounted and the UI port exposed.
Before you start
- Docker image wolfinch:1.2.0, as named in the repository example
- A host directory for configuration files and a separate host data directory
- A configuration file such as config/wolfinch_config.yml
- Port 8080 available, or the configured custom UI port exposed
Steps
Mount the host configuration directory at /config and the host data directory at /data.
Expose port 8080, or expose the custom UI port if one is configured.
Start the wolfinch:1.2.0 container with --config config/wolfinch_config.yml and any optional parameters.
Expected outcome
A containerized Wolfinch instance with its UI port exposed and configuration and data directories mounted.
Guide limitations
- The README does not establish compatibility with a particular hosting provider.
- This setup guidance does not establish trading results or simulation accuracy.
