Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when you need a locally generated Bitcoin, Ethereum or Solana address matching a custom pattern, or want to integrate that search into Rust software.

Who it is for

  • People who want a locally generated cryptocurrency address matching a chosen text pattern.
  • Rust developers integrating vanity-address search into an application.

Documented uses

  • Search Bitcoin addresses for a prefix, suffix, substring or regular expression.
  • Search Ethereum or Solana addresses for supported exact patterns when the corresponding optional features are enabled.
  • Choose CPU, automatic, hybrid or experimental GPU processing for eligible searches.
  • Call address search from a Rust application using configurable search options.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The public repository identifies the project as open source under the Apache-2.0 license. CLI installation is documented through Cargo.

  • Ethereum and Solana support are optional Cargo features; Bitcoin CPU support is included by default.
  • Regular-expression searches use CPU, including when other backends are selected.
  • GPU and hybrid acceleration are experimental and require the GPU feature; GPU-only mode also requires an available adapter.
  • The GPU usage-limit option is a best-effort duty-cycle setting, not a hardware power cap.
  • The repository documents Rust 1.89 or later.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install and run a Bitcoin prefix search

Install the CLI with its default Bitcoin CPU support and search for an address beginning with a chosen pattern.

Before you start

  • Rust 1.89 or later
  • A command-line environment with Cargo

Steps

  1. Install the tool with the command below.

    Documented command
    cargo install btc-vanity
  2. Run btc-vanity emiv to search Bitcoin addresses for the prefix emiv.

Expected outcome

The CLI searches locally for a Bitcoin address matching the requested prefix.

Guide limitations

  • Bitcoin prefix matching is the default; Ethereum, Solana and experimental GPU support require their corresponding Cargo features.
  • The documented command does not specify an expected search time.
