Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a Pydantic AI application needs more than instruction-only local skills, such as remote registries, programmatic definitions, bundled reference files or scripts. For a local library containing only instructions, the project documentation identifies Pydantic AI harness as the smaller dependency.
Who it is for
- Python developers building applications with Pydantic AI
- Teams organising reusable agent instructions, reference files and scripts as skills
- Developers that need Git, S3 or custom skill registries
- Builders that want programmatic skills or controlled access to bundled skill files
Documented uses
- Add filesystem-based skills to a Pydantic AI agent
- Load skills from remote Git, S3 or custom registries
- Expose Python-defined skills through a Pydantic AI application
- Reveal detailed instructions only when an agent needs a skill
- Read bundled resources and run bundled scripts within a skill integration
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and displays an MIT license. The package documentation lists Python 3.10+ and installation through uv or pip.
- It requires Pydantic AI harness and delegates parsing, validation, cataloguing and instruction rendering to it.
- Remote registries are documented for Git, S3 and custom sources, with filtering, prefixing, renaming and merging.
- Bundled resources and scripts are exposed through read_skill_resource and run_skill_script.
- The package supports sandboxed execution for skill scripts, including use of a container or virtual filesystem.
- Skill frontmatter fields such as allowed-tools are accepted but do not restrict behaviour in this integration.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
