Practical overview
When it fits
Use Kungfu when coding work must continue across different agent environments or remain inspectable after failure and restart. Its built-in Mock Agent is useful for viewing the local continuity and recovery path before connecting a real agent.
Who it is for
- Developers using multiple coding agents
- Teams that need work to survive agent handoffs and interruptions
- Builders designing multi-agent workflows with durable shared state
Documented uses
- Preserve task context when changing coding agents
- Resume work after disconnects, crashes or restarts
- Record agent attempts without erasing the underlying Work
- Support independent review before Work is settled as complete
- Provide shared Work views through agent consoles, CLI, TUI, GUI and APIs
Requirements & limits
The repository is public, open source and licensed under Apache-2.0. The documented platform support is macOS and Linux. Kungfu is currently Alpha. The Mock Agent needs no provider credentials, but regular onboarding still requires a supported real agent for independent review.
- Named handoff targets include Codex, Claude, OpenCode and Amp.
- The framework preserves Work state rather than the agent chat itself.
- A Project, Work and Attempt model separates context, objectives and individual execution history.
- An agent cannot approve its own Work through the documented governed review and settlement path.
- The project-local .kungfu/ directory contains durable Work and runtime state and should follow its workspaceGit policy before Git staging.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Compare options for Agent orchestration
These projects document a common task and share a project role. This is a source-based comparison, not an execution benchmark or a guarantee of interchangeability.
