Practical overview
When it fits
Use Anchor when Solana development requires an integrated workflow spanning program authoring, interface description, client generation and workspace management.
Who it is for
- Rust developers building Solana programs or smart contracts
- Teams that need generated TypeScript clients from program interfaces
- Developers managing Solana application workspaces through a CLI
Documented uses
- Write Solana programs using Rust-based framework primitives
- Define an interface description with an IDL
- Generate TypeScript clients from an IDL
- Build and manage an Anchor workspace
- Use Rust or TypeScript packages when interacting with Anchor programs
Requirements & limits
The cited repository is public and licensed under Apache-2.0. The documented CLI installation uses the Anchor Version Manager and a nightly channel.
- The framework is Solana-specific rather than a general smart-contract toolkit.
- Rust is the primary implementation language, while TypeScript is supported for generated clients.
- IDL generation connects program definitions with client development.
- The CLI and workspace tooling are relevant when managing a complete application rather than an isolated program.
- The repository points to examples, tests, tutorials and separate Rust and TypeScript API documentation.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Install the Anchor CLI through AVM
Set up the Anchor Version Manager and enable the nightly Anchor CLI channel.
Before you start
- A shell environment with access to the Anchor repository's installer URL.
- The documented installer command from the repository.
Steps
Run the repository's AVM installation command: curl -sSfL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/otter-sec/anchor/master/avm/install | sh.
If AVM is already installed, enable the nightly channel with avm nightly.
To leave nightly mode, use avm nightly --disable.
Expected outcome
AVM and the Anchor CLI are installed or configured through the documented nightly channel.
Guide limitations
- The installer downloads the latest nightly AVM and Anchor CLI binaries, so the exact installed version is not specified.
