Practical overview
When it fits
Use Edgequake when a project needs document processing combined with knowledge-graph-based retrieval and generation, especially in a self-hosted or Rust-oriented environment.
Who it is for
- Developers building document question-answering systems
- Teams creating knowledge graphs from internal documents
- Engineers adding graph-based retrieval to generation applications
- Rust developers building domain-specific RAG services
Documented uses
- Transform documents into knowledge graphs
- Support retrieval and generation over domain-specific information
- Run a self-hosted GraphRAG service
- Provide a document-grounded retrieval layer for applications
Requirements & limits
The repository is publicly accessible and identifies an Apache-2.0 license. The documented Docker quickstart provides local web and API endpoints; no account requirement or pricing information is established here.
- Rust is the primary implementation language.
- The framework supports CLI and server-oriented self-hosted use across Linux, Windows and macOS.
- Docker quickstart setup is documented, including OpenAI and Ollama configurations.
- The project separates database migration from API startup for documented schema changes.
- The architecture is centered on knowledge-graph construction rather than plain document retrieval alone.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Start Edgequake with the Docker quickstart
Launch the documented Edgequake stack locally and verify its health endpoint.
Before you start
- Docker
- A shell environment that can run curl and the quickstart script
- A choice of OpenAI or Ollama provider and model during setup
Steps
Run the documented quickstart script from the Edgequake repository.
Follow the wizard to select a provider and model.
Open the web interface at http://localhost:3000.
Check the REST API health endpoint at http://localhost:8080/health.
Expected outcome
The Edgequake web interface and REST API are available locally, with the health endpoint providing a verification check.
Guide limitations
- The documented quickstart uses Docker and runs with an open API in development mode.
- Provider configuration and model selection are part of setup.
- This guide covers startup and verification, not the subsequent construction of a knowledge base.
