Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Errand when work benefits from an agent that keeps a cloud workspace with files, tools, browser access and conversation history across sessions.

Who it is for

  • macOS users who want to assign jobs to persistent AI agents
  • Users who need to follow agent activity through a conversation or live desktop
  • Developers interested in an open-source TypeScript and Electron client

Documented uses

  • Create an AI agent and assign it a focused job
  • Follow tool activity, outputs and the agent’s live computer
  • Return to previous conversations and completed runs
  • Send follow-up instructions without rebuilding context
  • Attach an image as native input to an agent

Requirements & limits

The documented local setup targets macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon and requires Node.js 22–26 and npm 10 or later. Running the app requires a Runta account and configured model access.

  • Execution takes place in Runta cloud agent runtimes rather than only on the local Mac.
  • Each agent has a separate cloud workspace for files, tools and ongoing work.
  • The interface combines conversations, activity, results and a live computer view.
  • The documented client is macOS-focused and supports Apple Silicon.
  • Changing the backend requires implementing the agent, run, event, artifact and computer-session contracts.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
