SHA-256 Checksum Calculator
Calculate a SHA-256 checksum from text or a file and compare it with an expected value locally.
Runs locally in your browserMaximum 2 MiB per input. Selected Base64 and SHA-256 files are read as exact bytes. CSV: 20,000 data rows and 100 columns. Text comparisons preserve case, whitespace and Unicode spelling.
Files are hashed byte for byte, including line endings and any BOM. Pasted text is encoded as UTF-8; browser editing may normalize line endings. Optional comparisons require 64 hexadecimal characters. A matching hash only establishes equality to the supplied checksum, not source authenticity. Requires HTTPS and Web Crypto.

What this tool does
Files are hashed byte for byte, including line endings and any BOM. Pasted text is encoded as UTF-8; browser editing may normalize line endings. Optional comparisons require 64 hexadecimal characters. A matching hash only establishes equality to the supplied checksum, not source authenticity. Requires HTTPS and Web Crypto.
Use the example to understand the accepted input. Field names, when applicable, are literal. Inputs are not executed, and Sitemap Inspector never requests the listed URLs.
Worker processing stops after 20 seconds; results are limited to 5 MiB. Initial sitemap XML parsing runs locally before that worker timeout. Inputs and results are cleared when you reload the page. Nothing is executed from the supplied files.
A practical example
Compare the bytes of a downloaded file against a checksum obtained from a trusted source.
Example input
abc
What to expect
SHA-256 of exactly these three UTF-8 bytes, without a newline: ba7816bf8f01cfea414140de5dae2223b00361a396177a9cb410ff61f20015ad

The manifest recipe hashes files; the spelling classifier validates hexadecimal text and does not calculate hashes.
