Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when a workflow needs to become a reusable, reviewable agent-skill package, especially where evaluation, multiple target formats or release evidence matter.
Who it is for
- People turning repeated workflows into reusable agent skills.
- Teams preparing skills for review, beta release or continued maintenance.
- Maintainers who need to package skills for multiple documented agent targets.
Documented uses
- Create a skill from a workflow, prompt set, transcript, runbook or document pattern.
- Refactor or improve an existing skill and define its inputs, outputs and boundaries.
- Evaluate triggers and outputs, and assemble review evidence.
- Compile a modeled skill into documented target formats and manage release gates.
- Track adoption drift and use feedback to plan later skill updates.
Requirements & limits
The project is available as a public GitHub repository and displays an MIT license. Its quick start documents installation through the Skills CLI.
- The 2.0 Skill IR captures intent, triggers, inputs, outputs, boundaries, references and expected artifacts before target compilation.
- Documented targets include OpenAI, Claude, generic agent skills, Agent Skills-compatible packages and VS Code-oriented workflows.
- The evaluation and release process includes checks and evidence artifacts, but the README says some stronger claims remain evidence-gated.
- The quick start specifically documents a Skills CLI installation for Codex and a selection option for all supported agents.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
