Xrpl Py

Xrpl Py, the xrpl-py library, is an open-source Python implementation for interacting with the XRP Ledger. It provides transaction and rippled API-object models, a network client, account methods, wallet and key-management tools, serialization and signing, and codecs for addresses and other objects.

Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when an XRPL application needs Python-native ledger models and client methods, especially for transaction preparation, signing, submission, or account and transaction queries.

Who it is for

  • Python developers building applications that interact with the XRP Ledger.
  • Developers creating transaction-signing utilities or integrations that query and handle rippled API objects.

Documented uses

  • Connect a Python application to an XRP Ledger network.
  • Create or derive wallets, seeds, keypairs, and addresses.
  • Build, serialize, sign, and submit ledger transactions.
  • Inspect accounts and request transaction or other server API objects.
  • Encode and decode addresses and other XRPL objects.

Requirements & limits

The library is open source under the ISC license and can be installed with pip. The repository specifies Python 3.10 or later.

  • It is a developer library, so using it requires a Python application and code; the repository documents Python 3.10+ and pip installation.
  • Applications need an XRP Ledger network connection. The example uses a JSON-RPC client connected to testnet and faucet-generated wallets.
  • The core package includes confidential MPT transaction models, while confidential-transfer proof generation requires the optional xrpl-py-confidential add-on, described as beta.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Install xrpl-py in a Python environment

Add the library to a Python project before building XRP Ledger integrations.

Before you start

  • Python 3.10 or later
  • pip

Steps

  1. Run the command below in the project environment.

    Documented command
    pip3 install xrpl-py
  2. Import the library modules needed for your application, such as xrpl.clients for a network client.

Expected outcome

The Python environment has xrpl-py installed and can begin using its documented modules.

Guide limitations

  • Installation alone does not connect an application to an XRP Ledger network or submit a transaction.
