Practical overview
When it fits
Use the repository for its ASR recipes and research resources; for new development, follow the project’s stated move to Flashlight’s ASR application.
Who it is for
- Researchers reproducing the speech-recognition experiments listed in the repository.
- Developers building or adapting end-to-end speech-to-text models.
Documented uses
- Train and evaluate end-to-end speech-recognition models using the provided recipes.
- Prepare data for model training and evaluation using repository resources.
- Use pretrained models and recipes as a basis for speech-to-text application work.
Requirements & limits
- The project identifies Flashlight’s ASR application as the location for future development.
- Building the documented recipes requires Flashlight’s 0.3 branch and ASR application.
- Exact reproduction of listed results requires Flashlight 0.3.2 or earlier.
- The repository describes toolkit and recipe resources, not a hosted transcription interface.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build the wav2letter recipes
Set up the documented Flashlight ASR prerequisite and build the wav2letter recipes.
Before you start
- Flashlight installed from its 0.3 branch with the ASR application.
- For nonstandard Flashlight or ArrayFire install paths, the relevant CMake package directories.
Steps
Install Flashlight from the 0.3 branch with the ASR application.
Create and enter a build directory with
mkdir build && cd build.Run
cmake .. && make -j8.If Flashlight or ArrayFire is installed in a nonstandard path, pass the documented
-Dflashlight_DIR=[PREFIX]/usr/share/flashlight/cmake/and-DArrayFire_DIR=[PREFIX]/usr/share/ArrayFire/cmakeoptions when running CMake.
Expected outcome
The documented recipe build commands have been run after installing the required Flashlight version and ASR application.
Guide limitations
- The instructions describe building the recipes, not running a training or evaluation job.
- Exact reproduction of listed research results requires Flashlight <= 0.3.2.
- The repository states future wav2letter development has moved to Flashlight's ASR application.
