Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you need a documented starting point for developing, testing or adapting a cross-chain browser wallet extension rather than a standalone hosted-wallet service.
Who it is for
- Developers building or studying browser-based cryptocurrency wallets
- Contributors working on cross-chain Bitcoin and Ethereum workflows
- Developers exploring extension prototypes related to atomic-swap workflows
Documented uses
- Set up the wallet extension locally with the repository’s Node and npm workflow
- Build and load a development version as an unpacked Google Chrome extension
- Create a production build and run linting
- Run documented Puppeteer integration tests with test-network seed words
- Link a local wallet-core build while developing related changes
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and licensed under MIT. The documented development workflow uses Google Chrome for loading the built extension.
- The repository targets a browser-extension workflow and specifically documents loading
/distin Google Chrome. - The implementation is Vue-based and includes npm build, lint and development commands.
- Integration testing uses Puppeteer and requires test-network seed words through
SEED_WORDS. - Contributors changing wallet-core can link a local wallet-core repository with Yarn.
- Release preparation includes synchronizing manifest versions and pushing a Git tag.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up and load the wallet extension locally
Prepare the repository, create a development build and load its generated directory as an unpacked Google Chrome extension.
Before you start
- NVM and the Node version selected by the repository’s
.nvmrcconfiguration - A local checkout of the Wallet — liquality repository
- Google Chrome
Steps
Install NVM and use it to select the repository’s required Node version.
Run the command below in the repository directory.
npm ciRun the command below to compile the development build with hot reload.
npm run devLoad the
/distdirectory as an unpacked extension in Google Chrome.
Expected outcome
A development build is available to load as an unpacked Chrome extension.
Guide limitations
- This documented procedure covers local setup and loading; it does not establish production deployment or wallet operation.
- The README specifies Google Chrome for the unpacked-extension step.
