Practical overview
When it fits
Use the library when building an application that needs Verida protocol connectivity and an account flow suited to its runtime. Select account-web-vault for web authentication through Verida Vault, or account-node for Node.js server-side account creation and request signing.
Who it is for
- Web developers who need Verida network connections and Vault-backed QR-code authentication signing.
- Node.js developers creating Verida accounts and automatically signing authentication requests.
- React Native developers evaluating the account-node approach or the separately maintained modified client library.
Documented uses
- Add Verida protocol support to an application with the client-ts package.
- Connect a web app using QR-code authentication signing through Verida Vault.
- Create a Node.js account from a private key or seed phrase and sign authentication requests.
- Use helpers for encryption, account key management and linking storage endpoint information.
Requirements & limits
The repository is public and identifies the project license as ISC.
- The web and Node.js account packages use different authentication approaches: QR-code signing through Verida Vault versus an account created from a private key or seed phrase.
- The repository specifies Node.js 18 (LTS Hydrogen) as a build requirement.
- React Native has a separate repository with a slightly modified client library; the README also mentions account-node for React Native.
- The encryption, keyring and storage-link packages are described as helpers that typically are not used directly.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Build the Verida.js monorepo packages
Install dependencies and build all packages in the Verida.js repository.
Before you start
- Node.js v18 (lts/hydrogen).
- The Verida.js repository and its root directory.
Steps
Select Node.js v18 (lts/hydrogen), using
nvm install lts/hydrogenandnvm useas documented. From the repository root, run
yarn install. From the repository root, run the command below.
npx lerna run build
Expected outcome
The monorepo's packages are built.
Guide limitations
- This recipe covers building the repository packages, not running an application or deploying a service.
- The repository documents Node.js v18 as the build requirement.
