Practical overview
When it fits
Use TrafficLab 3D for an academic or demonstration workflow when you have MP4 CCTV footage and its map location, and can prepare the required camera-to-map calibration and model inputs.
Who it is for
- Students exploring computer vision in traffic scenes.
- Individual investigators and enthusiasts creating traffic demonstrations from CCTV footage.
- People seeking to relate a camera view to its Google Maps location without access to synchronized high-quality satellite imagery.
Documented uses
- Calibrate a CCTV view to a satellite-map view and save the projection for a location.
- Run object detection and tracking on traffic footage with configurable models and smoothing options.
- Inspect traffic through synchronized camera and satellite panels, with 3D camera-view boxes and mapped floor boxes, speed and orientation.
Requirements & limits
The project is publicly available on GitHub under the MIT license. Its README documents a local Conda environment and Python launch command.
- The method supports a single flat planar environment.
- Occlusion and other detector or tracker errors can produce noisy visualizations.
- Initial camera-to-map projection and SVG-map preparation can be tedious.
- The repository describes the codebase as an experimental, monolithic proof of concept.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up and open TrafficLab 3D
Create the documented Conda environment and launch the application.
Before you start
- A local copy of the TrafficLab-3D repository.
- Conda installed.
Steps
From the repository directory, create the environment with
conda env create -f environment.yml.Launch the program with the command below.
python main.py
Expected outcome
The TrafficLab 3D application opens for work across its calibration, inference and visualization tabs.
Guide limitations
- Launching the application alone does not prepare location calibration data, models or inference outputs.
- The repository describes the software as an experimental proof of concept for academic and demonstration purposes.
