Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use Toncli when working on a TON contract project and you need command-line support across compilation, testing, deployment or interaction with deployed contracts.

Who it is for

  • Developers building or maintaining smart contracts on TON.
  • Developers who want CLI workflows involving FunC, Fift and TON networks.

Documented uses

  • Compile FunC source files into a build directory.
  • Run project tests with runvmcode and use Fift files for pre-deployment checks.
  • Calculate contract addresses and deploy contracts to mainnet, testnet or ownnet.
  • Send messages to deployed contracts, run get methods and parse their output.
  • Run remote contracts locally for debugging.
Before you choose

Requirements & limits

The project lists Windows, macOS (Intel and Apple silicon), Linux and Docker as supported installation environments. It is open source under the Apache-2.0 license.

  • Deployment requires local network configuration and a deploy wallet funded with TON.
  • The README documents compilation, testing, deployment and contract interaction as distinct workflow capabilities.
  • The project is Python-based and lists Fift, FunC and lite-server usage.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Deploy a TON contract with Toncli

Use the documented CLI deployment workflow to deploy a prepared contract to a configured TON network.

Before you start

  • A TON contract project prepared for Toncli.
  • Local network configuration for the chosen network.
  • A deploy wallet with TON to fund the deployment.
  • Fift files such as fift/data.fif, fift/message.fif or fift/lib.fif can be used for pre-deployment checks when present.

Steps

  1. Configure the target network locally; if configuration is absent, Toncli downloads it from the URL in config.ini.

  2. On first deployment, Toncli creates a deploy wallet in its configuration folder; send TON to the displayed wallet address.

  3. Run the deployment workflow, which checks available Fift files, calculates and displays the contract address, then sends funds and deploys the contract.

Expected outcome

Toncli submits the contract deployment through lite-client after generating the deployment message and BOC.

Guide limitations

  • Deployment exits and reports that the deployer balance must be updated if the wallet has no TON.
  • The documented workflow uses lite-client to send the BOC.
