Practical overview
When it fits
Use it when you have an arXiv or bioRxiv link and want to read the paper while asking questions grounded in its text. It is also useful for following supported references during that discussion.
Who it is for
- Readers who want to ask questions about a particular arXiv or bioRxiv paper while reading it.
- Researchers and students who want to summarize a paper, relate claims to evidence, or ask about its methods and limitations.
Documented uses
- Open an arXiv or bioRxiv paper in an integrated reader and chat interface.
- Ask for an explanation or answer about a selected passage.
- Summarize a paper or explore its claims, evidence, methods and limitations.
- Preview citations and, when text is available, add a cited paper to the discussion.
Requirements & limits
- The project supports arXiv and bioRxiv links through separate Talk2Arxiv domains.
- HTML is used when available; some papers instead open as PDFs, and papers not rendered as HTML may return an error.
- The model receives the full paper text in one prompt; papers beyond the stated approximate 800,000-token context window cannot be processed.
- Citation context can be full text or PDF for some references, abstracts for others, or unavailable.
- Per-paper chat history is stored in the browser’s localStorage.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Open a paper in Talk2Arxiv
Load an arXiv or bioRxiv paper in the reader and chat interface.
Before you start
- An arXiv or bioRxiv paper link.
Steps
For an arXiv link, replace arxiv.org with talk2arxiv.org in the URL.
For a bioRxiv link, replace biorxiv.org with talk2biorxiv.org.
Open the changed link to view the paper and its chat interface.
Expected outcome
The paper opens in Talk2Arxiv’s reader and chat interface when it can be loaded.
Guide limitations
- Some papers have no HTML version and use the PDF fallback; papers not rendered as HTML may show an error.
- Papers that exceed the model context window, stated as about 800,000 tokens, produce an error.
- Some cited works can be added only with an abstract; references without available text cannot be attached.
