Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use the wallet when you want a browser-based self-custody interface spanning its stated networks; use the repository instructions when your task is extension development rather than ordinary wallet installation.

Who it is for

  • People seeking a self-custody browser wallet for assets across Ethereum, Bittensor, Solana and Polkadot.
  • Developers who want to build or work on the wallet extension from its source repository.

Documented uses

  • Use a browser extension to interact with supported blockchain networks.
  • Set up a local extension development environment from the public repository.
  • Run the documented unit or end-to-end test workflows when developing the codebase.

Requirements & limits

  • The project describes the wallet as non-custodial and self-custody.
  • The README directs wallet users to a browser download page and documents development workflows separately.
  • The documented development stack uses Node.js, Corepack, pnpm and WXT/Vite.
  • Firefox development has a stated requirement of Firefox 147 or later.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Start the wallet extension development build

Set up the repository and launch its Chrome extension development server.

Before you start

  • Node.js
  • Corepack enabled
  • Git and pnpm, managed through Corepack

Steps

  1. Clone the Talisman repository and change into its directory.

  2. Run nvm install to install the Node.js version specified by the project.

  3. Install dependencies with pnpm install.

  4. Start the extension development server with pnpm dev:extension; the README says it opens Chrome with the extension loaded.

Expected outcome

A Chrome development build of the extension opens with hot reload available as code changes.

Guide limitations

  • This is a development workflow, not the documented end-user installation route.
  • The README also documents an alternative NOBROWSER=1 flow that requires loading the unpacked build manually in Chrome.
  • No compatibility guarantee is implied.
