Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it to follow structured Solana learning and associate lesson completion with on-chain credentials, or inspect its public code when building a similar course experience.

Who it is for

  • Learners studying Solana through courses and interactive lessons.
  • Builders exploring or adapting an open-source Solana learning platform.

Documented uses

  • Enroll in a course and work through its lessons.
  • Complete interactive code challenges and quizzes as part of learning.
  • Receive on-chain XP and course certificates for completed work.
  • Explore a codebase that combines a web app, Solana program, database and course-content bundle.

Requirements & limits

The project documentation describes the platform as currently running on Solana devnet. Local setup requires Supabase configuration and Solana RPC settings; a fresh installation does not show courses until course deployments are configured.

  • XP uses Token-2022 with non-transferable and permanent-delegate settings; course certificates use Metaplex Core NFTs with a permanent freeze delegate.
  • The program uses Pinocchio and Rust, while the web application uses Next.js 15 and TypeScript.
  • Supabase mirrors on-chain data for queries and related features, while on-chain records remain the source of truth for XP, lesson completion and credentials.
  • Course content is compiled from a separate repository and committed as a bundle rather than loaded dynamically.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Set up a local development instance

Install the application, configure its required services and start the local Next.js development server.

Before you start

  • Git, pnpm and the Supabase CLI
  • A Supabase project and its URL, anon key and service-role key
  • Solana RPC URLs for the public and server-side settings

Steps

  1. Clone the repository and run pnpm install.

  2. Copy .env.example to apps/web/.env.local and replace the illustrative values with project credentials.

  3. Link the Supabase project and run supabase db push to apply migrations.

  4. Run pnpm dev and open http://localhost:3000.

Expected outcome

The local Next.js development server starts with the database migrations applied.

Guide limitations

  • A fresh project has no visible courses until courses are deployed and marked synced and active in the Supabase onchain_deployments table.
  • Full on-chain features need additional program ID, XP mint and signer configuration.
  • The described platform is currently running on Solana devnet.
