Understand the project

Practical overview

When it fits

Use it when investigating the superlight-client approach or when you need a concrete repository and benchmark workflow for examining Ethereum PoS header synchronization.

Who it is for

  • Developers and researchers studying Ethereum Proof-of-Stake light-client designs.
  • Readers comparing client synchronization time, downloaded data and interaction counts.
  • People analyzing Beacon Chain sync committee participation with the included data scripts.

Documented uses

  • Inspect a client-and-prover implementation of interactive-bisection syncing.
  • Compare a superlight client with a conventional light client using the included benchmark workflow.
  • Fetch and plot Beacon Chain sync committee data and benchmark results.

Requirements & limits

The repository is public and identified as open source. The README's benchmark workflow requires a Heroku account for prover-server setup.

  • The core implementation is described as TypeScript/Node.js, while the repository's reported primary language is Jupyter Notebook.
  • The README gives separate benchmark results for Beacon Chain and dummy data; dummy-chain figures are not directly interchangeable with Beacon Chain results.
  • Benchmark setup details include prover count, hardware, network speed and trial configuration, which affect how results should be interpreted.

Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.

Source-based practical guide

Prepare and run the documented client benchmark

Set up the project and run its multiple-server benchmark with a chosen configuration.

Before you start

  • A clone of the repository and a terminal opened in its implementation folder.
  • A Heroku account to set up prover servers.
  • Yarn and a local environment capable of building the project.

Steps

  1. Run the deployment scripts to create and deploy prover servers, then apply a configuration with the corresponding set-config script.

  2. Install dependencies with yarn install and build the local project with yarn build.

  3. Set proverCount, isDummy, size, committeeSize and trials in benchmark/multiple-server.ts for the selected configuration.

  4. Build again with yarn build, then run yarn benchmark.

Expected outcome

Benchmark results are written to the `results` folder, with the filename based on the selected configuration.

Guide limitations

  • Dummy-chain data generation can take time; the README names ping-app.sh as a way to check whether servers are up.
  • The reported benchmark values are tied to their stated setups and do not establish performance for other configurations.
