Practical overview
When it fits
Use this repository when your work specifically targets the legacy 0xSplits contracts or when you need its documented local Hardhat workflow. Check the separate V2 repository if your project requires V2 contracts.
Who it is for
- Developers inspecting or modifying legacy 0xSplits smart contracts.
- Developers setting up a local Hardhat workflow to work with payment splits.
Documented uses
- Inspect the legacy protocol contract code.
- Install the project dependencies and configure a local development network.
- Seed a local wallet for development.
- Create a local split with random recipients.
Requirements & limits
- The README identifies the contracts as legacy and directs V2 work to a separate monorepo.
- The repository is licensed under GPL-3.0.
- The local setup requires Node.js 12 or later, Yarn, and project-specific .env.local values.
Check current requirements in the official documentation. Source-based guidance does not mean OpenViST has run or independently tested this project.
Set up the local Hardhat development environment
Install the repository dependencies and configure a local Hardhat network for development.
Before you start
- Node.js version 12 or later
- Yarn
- MetaMask for the documented wallet network configuration
- Values for the .env.local file, obtained from another project contact
Steps
Install Yarn with npm install --global yarn and confirm it with yarn --version.
From the repository, run yarn install.
Start the local network with yarn hardhat node.
Configure MetaMask with the Localhost network, an RPC URL using the local host address and port 8545, and chain ID 1337.
Expected outcome
A configured local Hardhat network and installed project dependencies for development.
Guide limitations
- The project README says to copy .env.local.sample and fill in values obtained from another contact.
- The documented setup is local; it does not provide production deployment instructions.
Seed a local wallet and create a test split
Use the documented Hardhat commands to fund a local wallet and create a split with random recipients.
Before you start
- The local Hardhat network and project dependencies
- A wallet address
- A split size
Steps
Run yarn hardhat seedAccount --network localhost {{YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS}} to send funds to the local wallet.
Run yarn hardhat createSplit --network localhost --size {{SIZE}} to create a split with random recipients.
Expected outcome
A local wallet is seeded and the command to create a split with random recipients is run against localhost.
Guide limitations
- The documented command creates splits with random recipients; the README does not describe choosing named recipients or deploying to a live network.
